Ozzgallery

Eco-rare – Authors’ limited editions

Ozzgallery, eco-genesis

The Alchimie agency is specialised in futurology and works with a network of international experts* on urban lifestyles and the essential requirements for respecting nature. The desire for “eco-rare” has been identified in the forward-looking behaviour of ecologically aware urbanites.

The 10 locutions for eco-rare constructions are:

Having acknowledged this, managing director of Alchimie, Dominique Leguay, together with a group of expert friends, created an editing house to closely monitor this behaviour that will change our future: Ozzgallery was established with the task of making collective decisions, not only between associates/partners but also including all contributors to a given project: designer, manufacturer, graphic artist, distributor... because Ozzgallery believes that eco-rare cannot function without a strong spirit of collaboration or dedicated collaborationism.

* Network of international experts from a variety of fields - design, fashion, cosmetics, garden art, gastronomy, decoration, researchers, sociologists, consultants in sustainable development…

Ozzgallery Act I: designate rare-ecology as an official stance.

Ozzgallery ACT II: establish a charter

Ozzgallery, our charter

Emblematic eco-rare objects.

Ozzgallery, is a production and distribution house working exclusively with creative artists actively committed to eco-rare values. It is also an eco-rare space consultancy.

To create crafted objects, furniture and a wide range of works and architectural, woven or fashioned constructions that afford maximum traceability.

Working towards the collaborative construction of a living “green” heritage (and symbolic eco-rare artefacts).

Cultural added value: Eco-Rare

It is a philosophy stemming from nature - the earth and planet – and thereby closely related to eco-design. It ensures total transparency concerning the origins of raw materials, processing, manufacturing, non-pollution, durability and information.

The reason-why: from the basic material to the craftsman, from the creator to the user.

Benevolent, radical and desirable, each product becomes a rare creation, the symbol of a set of values.

The creative statement:

A limited series of multi-productions.

Each “authored and approved” edition is numbered and signed by the charter with the commitment of the editing house, artist or craftsman, and carries the name or a customised message of the individual enthusiast. Each piece is considered as a gift, an offering to the person and to the planet.

Furniture is intended for both outdoor and indoor use - for lounging in the kitchen garden or in the living room.

Products are centred on daily life and suggest a tension in every sense - transgression, transversality and surprises.

Eco-design credentials are achieved by an array of artists and craftsmen: creativity becomes a search engine.

Project structure:

A free community of artists, craftsmen, (designers), financial partners, distributors, publicists and prescribers.

Distribution:

A permanent showroom is located in the “Alchimie F.L.A.T.”, 21 rue Saint Paul F-75004 PARIS.

Distributors are art galleries, top market/high-end or polyvalent international design brands and retailers, museum shops, local communities, spa towns, mountain and seaside resorts, hotel groups and chains, our favourite prescribers, landscape or interior designers, architects and urban planners, art enthusiasts and private collectors.

Ozzgallery ACT III: identify our first artist.

Frederic Ruyant was markedly chosen for the stands he takes when inventing new furniture typologies and resembling the archaic defence/protection of the/one’s shack/hut, as well as for his sense of luxury mingled with its most ultimate paradox, a monastic lifestyle. In collaboration with Ozzgallery, he has created complex yet modest furniture with an almost virgin quality. In a word, his furniture supplies energy for the future.

Ozzgallery ACT IV: set up/structure our first collection.

One of Alchimie’s strengths is unquestionably the interest Dominique Leguay and her expert friends have in design and their search engine role. The desire was to play a part both in towns and in nature, which corresponded to Frederic Ruyant’s approach, as observed in Urban Oasis. A collection of 3 eco-rare indoor-outdoor pieces of furniture was created and perfected throughout 2006 and 2007: the “Woods” Collection.

Ozzgallery loves cult objects and therefore commissioned Frederic Ruyant to design furniture he simply felt strongly about. The result was 0zz.1, a secret refuge that will be followed by other Ozz works.

“Woods”

The Woods collection, a set of “Extravagances” or indoor-outdoor surprises, is composed of three avant-garde works conceived as functional, multi-purpose units, because objects have a mind of their own, are alive and incite people to strike postures, to acquire infinitely individualised refinement/sophistication.

These works establish a green culture and heritage with the commitment to preserve the forest and as they made in Bourgogne by a master cabinetmaker - PECC* quality label - each piece of furniture is its own container and is sold as a kit in a case to be assembled as a piece of furniture, in the manner of a travel kit. It is intended for use in a vegetable garden, town house or living room, but also in luxury hotels, museums or transit lounges.

Each piece of furniture is numbered from 1 to 50 for registered traceability, and bears the name of its forest of origin, the eco-rare gallery’s signature, the artist or craftsman’s name, and a date; all pieces can be customised: inscribed with a message or the name of their new owner.

* The PECC - Pan European Certification Council-quality label

PECC certification guarantees that a product or service complies with the defined standards applied to global silviculture and forestry. This procedure verifies that each certified forest is managed in accordance with the rules and regulations established by professionals –forestry developers, sawyers... – and is thereby controlled by competent independent experts; that the raw materials collected respecting these conditions are identified at each stage of processing so that the consumer can select products originating from these certified forests.

This certification process implies:

- Respecting referential technical specifications;

- The intervention of independent certifying bodies accredited by COFRAC;

- The application of internationally accepted standards ISO 9000 for quality management and ISO 14000 for environmental management.

Ozzgallery, our collection

Frederic Ruyant’s intentions

Woods: furniture that is a genealogical part of the cycle of life, creating a link/relationship with pure, graceful, untouched nature.

This furniture is a source of energy and is designed and fashioned to help one recover inner unity and harmony, one’s original and unsullied state.

The different items were conceived based on a simple element: a plank of wood. Made of Bourgogne ash, this furniture remains perfectly natural and without any artifice. The collection is the fruit of the experimental and assembly laboratory’s living momentum, and inspired by an armchair unit, which is epitome of well-being in furniture. This first unit was continuously developed as one would nurture a tree, progressively turning into a tête-à-tête, a writing case and a raft.

The inventory of one’s heritage to chat, pray, write and escape with.

I hewed the wood, inspired by skin naked in the sun or rain, with a certain innocence.

My thoughts were full of “eco genesis”.

Ecology allows one to revive the notion of the passing of time: this furniture will remain alive and enable each person to become reconciled with the micro-cellular life/beat of one’s innermost sense of time.

That is why traceability and trust, from creation right through to use, are essential.

I invite people to live in harmony with their piece of furniture, whether reading alone in their vegetable garden or laughing together with friends in an urban lounge. It can move around and be used indoors or outdoors, displaying grandpa’s boxing gloves, that recycled table brought back from Africa, or favourite works of art, or simply stand in the heart of earth’s garden from which it originates.

Hence, being a piece of furniture is just a passing state: from original birth, from tree sap to natural living in an urban environment.

Ozzgallery Act V: finding the appropriate craftsman.

For Ozzgallery, the aim was to find a craftsman sensitive to/aware of ecological concerns yet also able to approach an artist’s universe. The vital lead was Topos Environnement, a young company working in sustainable development for local communities. Patrick Brézé is a master cabinetmaker, an eco-designer, who each time we met further believed in Ozzgallery. This resulted in his joining us.
